What you might not know about moving to Brazil:Electricity in Brazil is both 110 and 220 volts, using the same outlets.Fortunately the house we are planning on renting has 110v throughout, so 110v appliances will work just fine.Electricity is very expensive in Belem. It costs over $100 per month for a house (all florescent lights) without A/C.Propane is the BEST choice for cooking and dryers. It costs less to use in appliances than electricity. Natural gas is not available; propane is delivered in BBQ size tanks (+/- 20 gallons) to the house. All these items will be loaded into a container and shipped, via ship, to Brazil. Since Becky is repatriating most of the duties, taxes and other fees for bring most goods into Brazil will be waived. However there is a 100% vehicle tax and only newer vehicles can be imported, which is why we are looking at purchasing one in Brazil.* Our specific request is for a Honda EU2000i and EU200i Companion – two separate generators. These are light and portable, great for ministry on the islands. They run over 9 hours on a gallon of gas. Gas can cost over $6.50/gal. Parts are available (yet pricy) in Brazil, which will be needed to rebuild the carburetor due to the poor quality of gas.** Our desire it to offset the high electrical costs in the city and complete lack of electricity on the islands with Solar.
